Residency
In collaboration with Javier Perez Aranda (ironwork)
Humans invented computing machines to use them as tools. However, these tools have developed to such an extent that, what not long ago was thought to be unimaginable, for example, computational generated texts or machines creating new machines, is now common-place. The video Here’s How AI 2.0 Will Be DIFFERENT by AI Uncovered introduces the idea of an imaginary AI 2.0, depicting a near-future reality where physical and virtual worlds merge, exemplified by brain-computer interfaces developed by companies like Neuralink (AI Uncovered 2024).
The Centre for Non-Machines Research explores living matter unaffected by computing machines. It is a space for reconnecting with cultural heritage while remaining engaged with contemporary society. The center hosts a residency program and welcomes artists, researchers, and friends from diverse disciplines. The central question guiding its activities is: How can we perceive the world as a living organism?
Located an hour’s walk from the Acropolis at Arkesinis 9, the center aims to bridge past, present, and future. It occupies a 200 m² allotment featuring two interconnected small houses with a shared yard. The flat roofs provide an open terrace and a desert garden, while the yard offers a more enclosed green space with orange, mandarin, grape, lemon, and pomegranate trees.
The Centre for Non-Machines Research provides tools for both practical work and conceptual exploration, including:
– Artificial Jellyfish
– Cascade Garden
– Puddle Garden
– Plant Containers
Thanks to Sister Vilma Suchockienė, the owner of the house, for supporting the initiative.
